Thanksgiving Party
The time of the year to give thanks for a bountiful harvest is known as Thanksgiving or Harvest Day. Although most of us do not farm and harvest crops, this is a time to gather with friend and family and celebrate all that you have, and remember that you are more fortunate than others.
Invitations
- Think grade school. Make invitations on cut-outs of a turkey or fall leaves.
- Invitations can be elegant, or informal. Just add a piece of cellophane, chiffon or sheer paper, on top and glue to the thematic background with party details written on it.
Decorations
- This theme is one of the easiest to decorate for. Purchase Thanksgiving decorations at any party store.
- The Thanksgiving dinner table should be decorated as well, in either a formal or casual setting. The table itself is the centerpiece of Thanksgiving because the holiday is centered on the feast.
Activities
Food
- Serve the traditional foods of the harvest: corn, mashed potatoes, bread (rolls, cornbread), turkey and ham.
- Blueberry and cherry pies.
- Peach and apple cobblers.
- Sweet potato pie and/or pumpkin pie.
Party Tip: If you are not a good cook, you can have the dinner catered by your local (high-end) grocery store such as Trader Joes, Bristol Farms or Gelson's.
