Housewarming Party
Housewarming parties are given when someone purchases a home. The idea is to get gifts from guests that will "warm" the home. Gifts such as mirrors, artwork, candles, appliances, and dishware and utensils are common.
GiftsCetera.com is a great resource to find the ideal gift for this occasion.
Invitations
- Take a photo of the new home, make copies, and write the party details on the back of the picture.
- Draw a primitive map, or download a map (from a website such as mapquest.com, or yahoo maps), and write the party details on back of it.
Decorations
- Collect maps, guides, brochures, etc. of the neighborhood. Glue them together in a fan shape. Glue each shape onto a small box, and stand in the center of the table (centerpiece) or on the corners of the table (buffet table).
- Throw chocolate coins and paper money around each display.
- Make a poster-sized print of a map of the neighborhood and mound on the wall.
Activities
- As this party is most likely to have many family members and close friends in attendance, urge them to give "remember when" speeches, and/or express their joy for this achievement.
- Videotape the speeches.
- Make a question and answer game out of the neighborhood or state.
Food
- Be time appropriate. If the party is in the morning, serve a breakfast buffet, lunch, serve a lunch buffet or dinner, a serve a dinner buffet.
- Lunch, by far, is the most practical, but who says, you have to be practical, especially if it is a surprise housewarming party!
- Lunch buffet menu could include: a salad spread. Have as many salads as possible.
- You should have at least one basic mixed greens salad, pasta salad, and macaroni salad. Then include heartier salads like tuna or chicken salad, and include a fruit salad or fruit and nut salad for a dessert.
Party Tip: Have guest register for gifts at a large chain store such as Target or a large department store such as Macy's.
