Hanukkah
Hanukkah, also known as the Feast of Lights, is a celebration of the Jewish victory over the Syrians over 2,000 years ago. It is celebrated in December. A candle is lit every day on a menorah, the main symbol of Hanukkah, for eight days.
Invitations
- For such a special family celebration, hand-made invitations are best.
- Make the invitation on traditional symbols of Hanukkah. Like the menorah, a dreidel, or a Star of David.
Attire
- Traditional or formal wear.
Decorations
- Hanukkah colors are white, silver and blue.
- Purchase traditional items to decorate, or make them out of construction paper, and hang on walls.
- Place settings and table should be in traditional colors.
Activities
- Play traditional games, such as spinning the dreidel and card games.
- Storytelling is also a tradition of Hanukkah. The elders usually tell the children stories.
- Sing traditional songs.
- Play traditional Hebrew music.
Food
- Serve traditional Jewish food, such as potato latkes, and quiche.
Party Tip: As an added activity, have each child open a day of the month on a gift calendar.
