Graduation
Graduation parties are given at milestone graduations such as graduation from middle school to high school, from high school and from college (at any level).
Invitations
- Hand-make invitations.
- Purchase papyrus-type paper and thin satin or acetate-blend ribbon (use school colors).
- Have party details printed in calligraphy or type in "Lucida Calligraphy" (in Word documents).
- Roll and tie.
- Mortar-board invitations are also a great idea. Purchase felt or thick, card or poster board in black or the school colors. Cut into squares. Make the band part of the hat out of the purchased material as well. Use glitter, bubble paint or a heavy, permanent marker to write the party details on top of the mortar-board. You may choose to write the details around the edges or just on top.
Decorations
- Make large mortar-boards and diplomas and hang/ post them all over the room. Metallic and/or Mylar balloons are also a great addition.
- A poster-sized graduation photo of the guest-of-honor, with plenty of margin space, for guests to write notes on.
- A large "congratulations!" banner.
- Centerpieces could be made from any school paraphernalia. A lighted candle in the middle or a bouquet of flowers adds a nice touch. Place all items on a flat, mirrored plane.
Activities
- A roast is appropriate for this event. It will be full of "remember when" stories, and other anecdotes.
- Set up a podium and video tape the guests reflections of the graduate, words of encouragement, and praise.
Food
- If it is a formal affair, cater.
- If informal, a French menu will dress it up. Serve crepes, quiche, croissants, etc, and fine pastries such as crème puffs and éclairs.
Party Tip: When planning the party, keep in mind that many other graduates may be having festivities also. Contact other parents or find out when the other events will be held and plan around then so your graduate will have a good turn-out.
