Christmas
Christmas is observed on December 25, of each year. It is a Christian holiday, celebrating Christ's birthday. Gift giving is commonplace, as in the story; the Three Wise Men whom brought gifts to the newborn King.
As with any holiday, it is always best to keep it simple and be traditional.
Invitations
- Purchase or make invitations on mistletoe, Christmas trees, a wreath, or just red and/or green paper.
Attire
- Christmas-themed clothing, such as red and green colored outfits, or outfits with Christmas symbols (Chritmas tree, wreath, mistletoe, etc.) on them.
- Semi-formal wear.
Decorations
- Hang plenty of mistletoe, green garlands, red, green and/or white candles, candy canes, and a lighted Christmas tree.
- For the centerpiece(s), place gift-wrapped boxes, surrounded by candles and holly with berries.
Activities
- Decorating the tree is the main event.
- Go caroling in the neighborhood or sing Christmas songs in-house.
- Gift exchange: Add a twist by having everyone bring a wrapped, unisex gift (valued at or under $25). Have everybody pull a number.
- The person with the lowest number will pick a gift first, and so on.
- The next person has the opportunity to take to preceding person's gift, or choose another, but they must decide before opening another gift.
- The suspense and fun builds as the game goes on. The larger your number, the more gifts you have to choose from. If a gift is "stolen" from you, pick another. The last person gets to choose to take anyone's gift, or the last wrapped gift.
Food
- Traditional, American (holiday) food such as turkey, ham, dressing, yams, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, macaroni and cheese, pies, cakes, and cobblers.
- Have a potluck. Just make sure you have a table dressed and ready for the food; plates, cups, napkins, and silverware.
- Prepare a "homemade" cider. Purchase canned or bottled (un-carbonated) apple cider, add allspice, apples slices and cinnamon sticks, and simmer. The aroma will also add to the ambience.
Party Tip: Start party early enough so guests can eat and have time to digest food before the activities begin. Activities such as caroling and decorating the tree require much energy, and a guest with a full belly may not want to participate, which may be everybody!
