Black-Tie Party
A Black-Tie party can be given for a teen as a birthday party or a celebration of a milestone event such as graduation, quínceañera, Sweet 16 or 18th birthday.
Invitations
- Make invitations in the shape of a bow-tie or formal dress.
- Have formal invitations made.
Attire
Decorations
- Rent a hall.
- Hang streamers, have metallic balloons, and flowers (as centerpieces).
- Stick to child's favorite color, and complement colors.
Activities
- This is a dance. So that is the entertainment.
- Hire a disc jockey. Get references from friends on a good one, and make sure he/she is stocked and current on your child's favorite type of music.
- This is a formal event. Hire a photographer, or ask a friend or relative with a gift of photography to take pictures of guests.
- Hire a sketch artist to draw cartoons of the guests.
- Have a toast, using plastic champagne glasses and apple, pear or peach cider.
- Give a door prize to first guest(s) to arrive; perhaps a photo album, or gift or certificate ($20) to a music or bookstore. Make sure and announce that there is a very nice door prize to be given away, on the invitation
Food
- Cater the event, or prepare large amounts of simple, not-so-messy dishes.
- Baked chicken in a lemon-herb marinade, salad, chicken fingers, cookies, punch, and water would be fine.
- Make sure to prepare chicken in a water-based, lemon-herb marinade. A little oil is needed, so chicken does not stick and remains tender, use olive oil.
Party Tip: This event is typically formal. Send out invitations five weeks ahead and plan carefully.
